Barbie movie

As an adult male in his 70s, do you think I would enjoy the Barbie movie. I am gay, so that might help.

I suspect it might have deeper meaning than supposed by many. I also like the two leads...and enjoy a bit of great choreography..Has anyone seen it?

It's very fun! There's a decent amount of gay humor. It gets some amount of deep - I was confused about the message but the premise is interesting.

I haven't seen it but just had lunch with my 70 something cousin and he said it was very clever. He said it had the added bonus of having a lot of conservative knickers in a twist. I'm not sure I want to spend $14 to see it in a theater but I'll definitely watch it on the small screen.

Yes. Note that I’ve not seen the movie, and I don’t know anything about you, but I still think you should see it. It’s good to try things. If you don’t like it, you’re only out two hours and a few dollars.

I would recommend it if you're even a little interested (which this question implies you are)! The cast is great and there is some fun dancing. There are many opinions on how "deep" it is but its message is aimed at people of all ages and genders (not just young girls, if that's what you're worried about).

I don't know you, but I think you might like the movie.

I think you're right that there are deep, meaningful aspects to it, but the film handles them lightly (if that makes any sense).

I think the design and visual aspect make it worth seeing on the big screen.

I was an 80s kid and I think many of the references are aimed at people who remember that time.

There is great choreography and the two leads give amazing performances with their whole souls on display in a joyful way.

(Also... I don't know what your type is, but there is abundant masculine beauty on display)

I haven't seen the movie yet, but this is LITERALLY about asking if men should see it, and men seeing it: Why Men Should Run, Not Walk, To See Barbie

Also to add, I do think this is one to see on the big screen (preferably in a packed theater full of people having a good time). The bright, stylized visuals of Barbieland are great and add a lot to the experience.

Honestly, it's just a really fun experience even if, looking back, you question whether it achieved its objectives, or even could achieve its objectives. Go see it on a nice big theater at a busy time. The tagline "If you love Barbie, this movie is for you; if you hate Barbie, this movie is for you" is accurate!

If you're a flim fan, there's a lot to enjoy. Greta Gerwig's list of influences is pretty accurate (not that you need to have seen them all or any of them to enjoy it) but it's not just an entire reference fest. It's thoughtful but it's also just a ton of fun. The production design is immaculate. It's dense!

I do think it's either something you connect with you or don't but I also feel like there's enough about it that's enjoyable on a surface level that it's worth seeing.

Margot Robbie (love her, want to be her best friend) and Ryan Gosling (who I never had a particular feeling about before but now I'm all in) are amazing in it and I think it's worth watching just for them.

It's good. Go see it. I will likely go see it again and buy it on Blu-ray the instant it's available. I watch a lot of movies and while I liked a lot, there are very few I've continued to think about days afterwards like I have with this one.

(There have been good -- if spoiler-y -- discussions on Fanfare about it. I don't think "spoilers" particularly ruin this movie overall, except for a few surprise jokes. It might be worth glancing through and seeing if it's for you.)

I'm 60, saw it over the weekend (double feature with Oppy) and loved it. You'll be hooked from the opening scene and it's fun, with feels, all the way along. Go.

You're going to have a blast. Oh wait, no, not like OPPENHEIMER. I mean, you'll have a really good time.

I'm 61 and I loved it. I'm not sure if it's a funny film trying to be deep or a deep film trying to be funny, but I didn't really overthink that and just enjoyed it for what it was - hilarious.

Yes, go see it if you are interested because it's really good and I think anyone who thinks it seems interesting will enjoy it!

You can also find a bunch of reviews of it from folks on the fanfare section of metafilter

I have seen two movies in the theater since 2020. Last month I saw Singin' in the Rain, and last week Barbie. I'm glad I broke my fast with these two.

Just saw it a couple days ago. Lots of fun!! It’s definitely got a young vibe but it’s entertaining and I think people of all ages can potentially enjoy it.
