TV show, with female doctor dreaming of her mom playing cards?

I'm back, with another 'do these vague TV show details ring a bell for anybody' question.

The only details I have are:

* TV series from sometime after 1980

* Female lead character (possibly a physician)

* Her mother had passed away and she had vivid dreams of her mother playing cards with other people

* Probably a drama or a comedy-drama

I can't absolutely guarantee that this person is not remembering a female doctor from an ensemble (e.g. "ER", "Grey's Anatomy"), instead of the show lead, but she did say "lead character". I haven't seen much of either of those, and I also don't know anything about shows like "Hart of Dixie" or "Saving Hope", both of which have female doctors in the lead.

Of course, this supposes that the questioner's idea of the character being a doctor is definite, but she actually said "I think she was a physician", so it's a little more wobbly underfoot than I'd like. But the dream of her dead mom playing cards feels specific enough that maybe someone will recognize it.

Does this ring any bells? Thanks for thinking it over!

Crossing Jordan, perhaps?

Not sure about the playing cards part, but there was a show called Providence where the main character was a doctor who goes back to live in her hometown after her mother dies. In the show, her mother's ghost gives her advice. I think it was around in the late 90's or early aughts.

This doesn’t fit any of the other details, but Six Feet Under featured several scenes of the protagonist’s dead father playing cards.

Response by poster: This all feels very promising--especially Providence, which I'd never heard of. Thanks for the input!
