How to add/change Instagram bio link without using the app?

Instagram is now insisting I must use the app to add or modify a bio link! Is there a workaround?

I avoid social media apps like the plague. In general, I avoid putting more apps on my phone than I really need, for reasons of privacy, security, and reducing the burden on my cellular data connection and my phone's processor. And when it comes to social media networks, I have long had a policy of only using them via my phone's (or my computer's) browser.

For many years, it was impossible to set up an Instagram account at all without the IG app... so I just didn't have one. Eventually I discovered that it had became possible to create and use an account via the browser, and I signed up.

But last night, while setting up a new account for a creative project, I discovered that it's now apparently impossible to add or modify an Instagram bio link without the app! While I was able to do everything else via the browser, Instagram is asserting that this one operation, for no obvious reason, can only be done in the app. That didn't used to be the case. This is pissing me off. So: Does anyone know of a workaround?

If you have a friend or family member with the app on their phone, you can sign in on their device, update your bio, and then sign out.

You could install the app, do the dirty and then remove the app - so yes, they get some device info from you initially, but not constantly...
