Tub Spout w/ Diverter Recommendations

I need a new bathtub spout with a shower diverter. I'd prefer it be about 7 inches long. Do you have a recommendation?

All the reviews on Amazon are mixed. I have no idea if anything is good or bad, and most don't have instructions about whether or not they will fit. Local big box and hardware stores have, in stock, mostly shorter 5" spouts.

Here's my setup/needs:

- 2.5" stub out copper pipe, so I'll want a slip-on style of spout
- I don't want to modify the pipe. I'm handy, but I don't need this to become more than a half-hour project
- I don't care about style
- I'd like to spend less than $40

Thank you for your help.

Would you have a problem with Moen for $50? That one should do what you want. The top review slipped it onto a 2.5” pipe. Moen support will stand behind the product if there’s an issue.

The house I'm in came with the very cheap home depot model Design House which is fine, but I've had to replace it twice in the last 10 years now as it corrodes fairly quickly.

Going forward, I should get a Moen.

But if you don't care about longevity, the $18 cheap version is fine, will work and last a few years.

Response by poster: I ended up going with the Moen you recommended, @michaelh.

The size and fit is good. After two weeks of use, it's working well as a tub spout and shower diverter.

However, I did purchase a returned unit, which ended up causing one small problem. Apparently Moen has shipped some of these with an opening in the spout body that doesn't line up with the set screw that secures the unit to the copper pipe. Mine was misaligned by a few degrees. This means you can't get your wrench in there to tighten the screw. The model I ordered arrived that way (and was probably returned to Amazon because of this fault).

In my case, it was easy enough to take a metal cutting disc and widen the notch where there was an opening to reach the set screw. For some people, this might not be an option for a few reasons.

1. My situation was simple since the screw was only misaligned by a few degrees, so I only needed to widen the existing opening on the spout body, which also means you can't see this alteration in daily use of the tub. Your situation could depend heavily, for both mechanical and cosmetic reasons, on the amount of misalignment in the unit.

2. You might not have a cutting tool or wish to cut into something you just purchased.

Amazon reviews say that the model has been replaced for them without a hassle when they were in the same situation. But be aware that you might have to modify the unit or go through the return process, especially if you opt for a used model.
