Film about an accident in North Africa (Paul Bowles, Mike Figgis)

I remember a film based in North Africa about British travellers who accidentally ran over a Berber child in a trek across North Africa that put me very much in mind of The Sheltering Sky by Paul Bowles and which I distinctly, but apparently incorrectly, remember being by Mike Figgis since I can't corroborate that at all. Please help me shake the cobwebs off my film-brain.
Best answer: I can't find any sort of actual plot description but Loss of Sexual Innocence I think has a child being run over in North Africa? Mike Figgis directed, so maybe you've come across this before already.

Response by poster: I can't exclude Loss of Sexual Innocence based on anything I've yet read. Regarding more recent films, let's assume it was almost certainly at least 20 years ago.

Response by poster: It seems that The Loss of Sexual Innocence is the film I remember. Apparently my mind had lost everything except the (apparently) Paul Bowles inspired episode.
I'm not sure if I want it on my re-watch list but it made an impression.

Response by poster: For anyone following along, I'm watching it again and about a third of the way through it's kinda like a Belle and Sebastian song except so much darker and more sinister and with a ton of colonial subtext. I might or might not update.

Response by poster: Um, I've watched it now and it's definitely the film I remembered. Some of the symbolism is really clear and some isn't. But I think that might sorta be the point.
I still think it owes a debt to Paul Bowles, but this is just my interpretation.
It's a difficult watch. I recommend it, but only if you're up for that kind of thing.
