What should i watch on AppleTV+

I got a 3 month free trial of AppleTV+ so my kid can watch Prehistoric Planet (Which is excellent, btw). What should I, an adult, watch on there when he's not around? Canada. Leaving it open so you can just tell me what's great, and then I'll match up to my tastes.

Severance is outstanding and if it was on a more popular streaming service it would be huge right now.

Severance
Ted Lasso
There's a series coming out called Silo, based on the Wool books.
For All Mankind is excellent up until the last season, though that's worth watching for the lulz.
Schmigadoon! if you have any interest in musical theater. Season 2 is coming out soon.
Beastie Boys Story, if you like the Beastie Boys.
Mythic Quest was ok for a bit but I got bored with it.

I’m enjoying the feel-good stories and the fascinating premises I’ve found on Apple TV.

Feel-good comedies:
Ted Lasso (mental health themes), Acapulco (high cheese factor, but I got into it)

Interesting premises:
Bad Sisters (mystery/dark comedy set in Ireland), Severance (seconding anotheraccount, this is fantastic and will leave you wanting season 2), For All Mankind (alternate reality space drama)

Tug at your heartstrings:
Coda (movie about a musically talented kid growing up in a deaf family), Dear Edward (engineered to make you cry)

TED LASSO TED LASSO TED LASSO TED LASSO
Mythic Quest is fun and has some very heartfelt beats in the storylines.
Shrinking gets good reviews and is on my list.

No recommendation comes close to Severance. I subscribed to AppleTV+ specifically for it based on hype alone and it exceeded expectations.

Besides the things already mentioned, I like The Morning Show, Physical, and Bad Sisters. I've only watched one episode of Extrapolations, but it has some promise.

Slow Horses, if you like British spies and shows based on books.

The Problem with Jon Stewart, if you like Jon Stewart when he doesn't have people writing jokes for him.

Slow Horses is excellent. I’d put it right up there with Severance, already mentioned.

Severances is wild.
We also liked Dickinson a lot, and foundation was interesting if not as well executed Severance or Ted Lasso.
Mythic Quest grew on me, so I guess my experience was the opposite of bondcliff.

Have fun watching!

Definitely Severance, but if you’re ultimately not looking to pay for AppleTV+, For All Mankind or Dickinson might be good bets because they’re over. I think most of the other series mentioned have new seasons that will come out after your trial...

For All Mankind isn't over, there's a season 4 coming. And I enjoyed season 3, although I know others did not.

As above, Ted Lasso is a great comedy. Shrinking is more of a dramedy and it's wonderful. Severance is a great mindtwister of a show. And Mythic Quest is loads of fun. I've enjoyed every season.

One that no one else has listed: Acapulco. Gosh darn it, people, get on this! The setup is: a man who has risen from rags to riches tells his nephew the story of how he got his start working at a resort in Acapulco in the '80s,. It is hilarious and heartwarming. It's also half in Spanish, with subtitles. More people need to watch this show; it's in my top 3 of Apple TV shows right now.

Another one no one else has listed: The Afterparty! Super-clever and hilarious Rashomon-style murder mystery. Each episode shows the story of the night from a different character's perspective - and each one is done as a different film genre. It is FANTASTIC. There is a Season 2 coming but Season 1 stands on its own.

So far The Reluctant Traveler has been great too.

Apple TV has been the most consistent in terms of quality of all the streaming networks.

Oh hey, someone’s already mentioned Ted Lasso, imagine that.

I’m pretty sure Ted Lasso is the reason people subscribe to Apple TV in the first place. I’ve never actually watched it myself, but it’s good enough that I can tell just by walking through the room while my wife is watching it that it’s pretty good. It probably helps that I have some background knowledge of the English Premier League and so I get a bunch of the cheap jokes, but my sense is that it’s more character-driven than joke-driven.

The movie Spirited is fantastic.
Shrinking is a wonderful show.
See is one of my favorite shows. It’s incredible. I’ve watched it twice and would do a third.
+1 to all the recs above too.

Slow Horses is absolutely the best, especially if you're a Gary Oldman fan. The producers absolutely nailed the casting, and for the first two seasons the adaptation from the books has been pretty good.

Ted Lasso is what everyone talks about when they talk about Apple TV. I resisted it until long after the end of season 2, and was actually glad because I didn't have to wait too long for the premiere of season 3.

Black Bird hasn't been mentioned yet - it's exceptionally good. A brilliant, bleak show with outstanding performances from Paul Walter Hauser and Tarpon Egerton as a serial killer and the con sent in to gain his trust.

My favorite shows are Ted Lasso, Shrinking, Black Bird, The Morning Show, Long Way Up, Five Days at Memorial.
My partner really likes Servant.

Acapulco is the best show that (almost) no one is talking about.

Dickenson was a surprise - never heard anything about it, but it was absolutely outstanding (and is finished and had a proper ending).

Yes on Ted Lasso, Shrinking, Severance, Mythic Quest, Afterparty. Also: Central Park (from many of the people behind Bob's Burgers)

For movies: Sidney, CODA, Beastie Boys, Causeway (criminally underrated).

I haven't seen it, but for other kids content, I hear great things about The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse (animated short) and Pinecone & Pony (series).

Severance is the best thing on there.

The Afterparty is a great whodunnit, with each episode told in the style of a different movie/TV cliche. It's really well done, and a neat mystery.

Slow Horses is incredibly fun, based on the series of novels by Mick Herron. Spies who MI5 would, um, like to keep out the way, doing spy things. Led by Gary Oldman having the time of his life as such an awful, awful man you can practically smell his farts through the TV.

The proshot of Broadway's Come From Away is really great. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I'll chime in to say I also enjoyed "Trying" on Apple TV+. This British comedy is both sweet and heartwarming. And, if I remember correctly, it is also a story with no main characters that are evil or bad.

WOLFWALKERS since it hasn’t been mentioned yet (a movie).

Yes Severance, Bad Sisters, Slow Horses, For All Mankind

I’ve gotten tired of Ted Lasso (I overheard my wife watching an episode from the other room and thought it was someone parodying it) but YMMV; you’re not a bad person if you dislike it, as the terminally online segment of its fanbase would have you believe.

I subscribed for Severence, and it was worth it times a million. An absolutely incredible show. I like Ted Lasso a lot too, and the second season just started. Apple TV also has lots of Peanuts which I (an adult) have been enjoying. I find it worth it just for Severence and Ted Lasso personally, but going to add Prehistoric Planet to the mix.

Depending on the age of your kid(s), Stillwater is a great show for kids. Very calming and positive.

Severance was good but I feel like it will not be satisfying ultimately, though the last episode was solid. I binge-watched Shrinking recently and enjoyed it. There’s a breeziness to it that’s unusual with prestige TV. I also enjoyed Loot with Maya Rudolph but it’s a little weird after watching Severance as Adam Scott plays her (ex)husband. It’s fluffier than Shrinking and a little cringe but again, I was pleased by the finale and look forward to seeing what happens next.
