What is the easiest way to send money from the US to brazil to relatively unsophisticated folks on the brazil side (as in crypto would probably not be an option at this point)?

also, lowest fees for the sender or reciever?

Wise, formerly Transferwise, is very smooth and economical.

Seconding Wise if the recipient has a bank account.

If not, Xoom, a Paypal subsidiary last time I checked, will allow you to send money to many or most of the Oxxo convenience stores in Mexico (as well as to banks and popular supermarkets, including Walmart). Oxxo seems to be expanding rapidly in Brazil, so that may be another possibility. All the recipient needs for that is valid ID (but be absolutely sure that you send the money to the name exactly as it occurs on the ID).

Can you check (if both parties have banks) if your US bank can do SWIFT transactions? That's the international standard for bank transfers. There shouldn't be additional fees incurred on your end or theirs.

You could do a bank transfer but if they don’t have an account, there’s a reason why Western Union is popular worldwide

How much money? There's a big difference between $500, $5000 and $50,000.

Seconding Wise, especially if you are able to get one of their debit cards and physically mail it to them. They would be able to withdraw cash from an ATM anywhere they wanted, and you can replenish the funds from your account stateside with very low exchange fees.

But, like ssg hints, moving large amounts of money will trigger money-laundering flags and there will be forms to fill out.

Easiest? Western Union. Super easy for the collector to pick up the cash. The just need a reference number and photo ID.
