I have a question about the TV show The Leftovers.

Possibly vaugue spoiler for the first episode inside.

The first episode of The Leftovers has more animal death/suffering than I can handle. Is this an ongoing theme/plot in the show?

Best answer: Yes, figures heavily in the first season. I don’t think there’s much in later seasons.

Best answer: Wait scratch that. There’s one particularly gruesome scene in the second season with a goat, and a kangaroo gets hit by a truck in the third season.

Shoutout to Does The Dog Die (spoilers obvs)

Best answer: It is definitely not a theme/plot of the series overall. I abandoned the show the first time I tried to watch, because of that concern specifically, and only tried again when I ran out of things to watch during early pandemic, and I'm so glad I did. There is a later-series (second season??) scene of sexual violence, though, and I just skipped it, and *everything* was fine for me, after that.

Response by poster: I had no idea how extensive Does the Dog Die was.

FWIW: the goat scene is skippable (the foreboding is strong), and the dog guy is important in the first season but the actual scenes of violence are skippable if you know where they are.

I love that series and would highly recommend it if you can make it work for you.
