NYC-Cat-Filter: Vet Recommendation (Queens preferred)

Our beautiful companion Ada needs a new vet. She is FeLV-positive, but has been healthy and happy for the year she's been with us. We're in Jackson Heights, and are, for various reasons, disenchanted with the neighborhood guy we've been seeing. The local vet has been calling, and telling us she needs new vaccinations, but we really don't want to go back to him.
Do you know of a really, really excellent cat vet? Ideally in Western Queens (Woodside, Sunnyside, Astoria, LIC)? We would go further afield for someone truly wonderful.
A friend has someone he likes at the Animal Medical Center, and we might go for that, but if there is someone closer, it would be great to minimize travel, which she hates.

Don't forget to get Ada's records from the old vet, unless you've already got duplicates at home. You can tell them you're moving, if you want a plausible reason.
She's a beautiful Standard Issue Cat!

Best answer: I have two recommendations for you (my cat is FIV+, btw):
1. Homefront Veterinary House Calls. You pay a bit more for the home visit but can be worth it to avoid the added stress on your cat.
2. Steinway Court Vet. They are excellent.
I used to use Astoria Vet Group and had all sorts of issues with them (from the front desk to the quality of care).

I'm also in Jackson Heights and would be very interested to know where you end up going. The neighborhood vet I've been going to is fine, and conveniently located, but I'm always interested in others' recos. Finding a great vet is so hard!

Response by poster: Just chiming in late to say that we went with Steinway Court and love them. Everyone there is great, they brought up some issues our previous vet hadn't raised and they're a 15 minute cab ride away.
Thanks so much for the recommendation!

As a bonus, one of the few pet pharmacies is around the corner on 23rd Avenue, if you need a one off medication.
