What's the deal with YEARLY travel insurance policies?

I spend half of my time on the road for work. And when I don't have any big projects I work remotely in different foreign countries to see the sights. I usually buy a policy for each trip but I hear you can buy one policy to rule them all for a year. Is that true? If so, what do I look for?

Here's a few that might interest you :
Geoblue
Cigna Global
IMG Patriot

There's a few others, but from my research, these seem to be the best.

My credit card has this and covers trips up to two weeks (pre trip). It's one option to look into.

I should add for trips longer than two weeks I can buy a top-up.

This is a very common thing, every travel insurer I've ever come across offers them. But make sure you read the T&Cs closely to find out whether/how long you need to be actually resident in your home country and how long you're allowed to be abroad. For example, this suggests you can usually take unlimited trips but each trip is limited to 30 days.

If you're overseas for extended stretches of time, they may be reluctant to cover you - at that point you're less of a tourist from your home country and more like someone who lives abroad (albeit maybe in multiple countries), which is a different matter.

Response by poster: For the record I'm also looking for the trip interruption and such insurance and not just the health part.

Hello! This is my area of specialty. Many of the annual plans only cover medical, which is not what you need. Seven Corners Wander Frequent Traveler Plus has both the medical and the travel benefits that you are looking for. There are other travel plans that you could theoretically buy for a year, but Wander is specifically designed as an annual travel plan. The catch with Wander is that the maximum length for any individual trip you take is 30, 45 or 60 days (depending on what you choose). So long as your individual trips don't last longer than 60 days this should be a good fit for you.
