Place in Brooklyn or Lower Manhattan to donate Pet Food and Supplies

I am looking for a place to donate some pet supplies: 1. unopened canned cat food 2. unopened cat litter and additionally, if possible - pet gates (1 open and 1 still in its box), food bowls and scratching posts.

I have tried the local Freecycle community, but the person I tried to pass this along to kept having problems scheduling an actual pick-up time. Perhaps I should try there again?

I tried to find a shelter, food bank, or rescue group accepting donations, but I keep running into disconnected numbers or other difficulties.

I would like to get these items to a place where they can be of use (and out of my home as a reminder of my cat who has passed away - its depressing to see it constantly)

Does anyone know of a place that will definitely take these items?

Freecycle. net or a local Buy Nothing Group, usually on fb. or a pet shelter.

I've given away a lot of stuff through the free section of Craigslist. You can say yes to the first person who responds, then keep another one or two respondents as backups.

You could also just give the food/litter away to a friend who has non-picky cats, or give it to your veterinarian to give to whatever rescue group they want. If you just take it to the vet office, they'll probably have somewhere to send it. Up to you if you want to call first.

Also: you might have more luck if you're willing to reach out to a less affluent part of the city.

Are you able to bring them somewhere or do you need to arrange pickup? If you can transport them yourself, I would just show up here during their posted hours.

Best answer: I know someone who runs a TNR project in Brooklyn. She’s mostly a single operator shelling out a lot of $$ for food and supplies OOP. She can always use cat food.

Best answer: Sean Casey Animal Rescue or K9Kastle (DM them on Instagram for quickest response) will probably take them.

Is freecycle the same as a "buy nothing" group you can find on Facebook? I give everything away in a local buy nothing group.

Or can you ask a friend to take them and take care of this for you?

Response by poster: Thank you bq and Fuego - I've reached out to K9Kastle and My Feral Lady Rescue. Hopefully they can use them.

In case you need it, another rescue/fostering org is Little Wanderers. I believe they're based in Beooklyn. They are very responsive on their Insta

Please note that the OP said she already HAS tried Freecycle without success.

OP: I had success dropping things off at the BARC shelter, but it seems that they're no longer operating as a shelter; however, they have a list of other shelters whom they assist here. Maybe one of them could accept things if you're able to get it to them? Or that's a list of places to reach out to and arrange a pickup.

Or, you could drop by the PetCo in Union Square and speak to one of the volunteers back with the Cat adoption area, to see if they know of a way to arrange things.

Response by poster: I was able to give pretty much everything to My Feral Lady Rescue. Thanks again for the answers that gave me specific organizations to contact.
