I'm hoping to follow accounts that post: interesting things, beautiful things, curious things.

I'm easily distracted by shiny things - art, gardening, music, literature, etc.

I'd like to see and learn about new stuff.

I am on the medium left side of the political spectrum but am open to interesting/thought-provoking viewpoints from the whole spectrum.

I'd like my feed to not just come from the US and not just come from overrepresented demographics.

I enjoy people who create their own content as well as people who post interesting stuff from others.

Anne Helen Petersen is basically the reason I still have Twitter. I originally followed her because I like her longform journalism, and yeah, that's great, but she's an absolute MASTER of Twitter. She's a better link aggregator than most link aggregator sites like Longform.org ever were, and beyond just posting links, she'll usually showcase the writer as well. (I don't know if she does it intentionally, but a lot of the writers she does showcase tend to be from historically marginalized groups, if that matters to you.) But one of the reasons I like her journalism so much is because it's so wide-ranging and often hyper-specific, and since Twitter doesn't go as deep, she can be even more wide-ranging and hyper-specific, with the same sort of insight. But also, she mixes all that with random life stuff, like FanFare-y TV show observations and Zillow WTFs and dog pictures. I really don't understand how she isn't the most followed person on Twitter. Best Twitter account since Horse_ebooks.

May I suggest Reasons To Be Cheerful? It's a site a newsletter started by David Byrne highlighting not just problems, but solutions to those problems that are working all over the world. here is a link to https://reasonstobecheerful.world/

Dr Kate Strasdin, @kateStrasdin. She posts about fashion history, it's light, it's BEAUTIFUL, and it is mind blowing the detail and intricacy of garments made pre-ready to wear fashion, many of the dresses are stitched *by hand*

Most of my Twitter is just the bite-sized versions of actual websites.

For example, Colossal (@Colossal) links to their website (which is also full of lovely), but if you just want some striking images in your feed, they're good for that too.

I'm a fan of @The_Millions, @ElectricLit, @lithub, and lots of lit mags, plus sci-fi and fantasy publishers for my literary interests. I don't know if the latter's your jam or not.

My favorite Twitter feed for this is WOMENSART, @womensart1.

I also follow art critic Sebastian Smee, and a number of major art museum accounts.

Ada Palmer and the #SomethingBeautiful hashtag.

I'm a fan of @The_Millions, @ElectricLit, @lithub, and lots of lit mags, plus sci-fi and fantasy publishers for my literary interests.

Here's a big list of sf/f publishers; I bet most of them post to Twitter to announce new issues and stories.

FYI, @womensart1 is controversial in a TERF-adjacent way. They post art by trans men as "women's art" and don't post art by trans women.

Ted Gioia is a very good and active aggregator in the "20th century art and culture" vein, though he finds and retweets other stuff too.
