Financial planner for a one-time consultation

I want to speak to a financial planner or advisor to get answers to a few specific questions. What I know I want: someone who is fee-only, knowledgeable and pleasant to talk to. What I know I don't want: someone who requires an ongoing retainer, charges a percentage, or is going to talk down to me as a young woman. What I do not know: where to find this person.

The questions I need to answer are primarily about investments, employer-issued stock options, and maybe the tax implications of those things. I don't need someone to manage my stuff on an ongoing basis, but I have questions that I haven't been able to answer with independent research.

I'm based in NYC but happy to work with someone virtually. I would LOVE personal recommendations, but would also welcome advice about where to find people and how to vet them.

I don't have specific names to recommend, but you can search NAPFA for fee-only advisors. There is also the CFP Board. On the CFP page you used to be able to filter by how they are paid (fee-only vs not) but I don't see that now so it may not be as useful in that regard. They do have a section titled "How to Choose a Planner."

I will DM you my financial advisor’s name! Not in NYC but I’ve only ever worked with her virtually and she’s the best!
