Did I read an SF story with a grey goo protagnist?

I'm not sure if read or dreamed this SF short story: told from the viewpoint of grey goo, AKA an Aggressive Hegemonising Swarm Object, in space. There's some kind of internal schism and it splits into two (I think) swarms with different goals. The MC is the goo itself.
