Platform that would accommodate making a different monthly newsletter for multiple nonprofits?

Hi!

I work for an umbrella organization that assists multiple nonprofits spread across the province. A need they have identified that we are trying to fill is an online platform that can help them create and distribute a digital newsletter via a prefab template that is emailed out once a month.

I was thinking something like MailChimp or Constant Contact, but it needs to have built in permission settings so that Organization A does not have access to Organization B’s subscribers, insights or content. They all need to be able to access the same account because we, the umbrella organization, would be paying for the service and we cannot afford to pay for 35 individual monthly Constant Contact subscriptions. Also, we would need oversight of all the content being created because we’ll be the ones they will go to if something doesn’t work or they have questions.

Does anyone have any ideas for platforms?

Thanks, in advance!

Campaign Monitor does what you describe. You set up an "agency account" and give each client access to only their own lists, campaigns, etc. You have access to everything.

Salesforce has two different solutions based on your needs and nonprofit discounts.

Action Network allows for sub-groups that don't have access to each others lists.

If your umbrella org is very tech-savvy, I suspect you could set up a very nice self-hosted solution with https://mailcoach.app/. (this opinion based on skimming the documentation, not actually using it)

A GNU Mailman instance should also be able to do this, too - I have used it this way, a little. It's more oriented toward discussion lists than announcement lists, though, and the interface is pretty old-looking and may be difficult for some folks to navigate. I hear version 3 has made significant improvements, but haven't used it myself.

Buttondown.email doesn't have the kind of multi-user permissions you describe, but it's free for lists under 1k subscribers and pretty cheap for more than that ($5 per extra 1k subscribers), so having an account for each org wouldn't be such a financial burden. It's very straightforward and easy-to-use. I found it an enormous relief after several years of struggling with Constant Contact's template builders. Also, they seem pretty friendly to non-profits and might give you some kind of deal. You might even have some success requesting the feature you describe; I think it's still under pretty active development. (Full disclosure: I am related to someone who is affiliated with the company.)
