Is a continuing ed certificate worth it?

I want a new job but, though I’m great at what I do (essentially construction project management) it’s in a niche field, I don’t have any actual education or bona fides. I want to get more mainstream job.

I can afford the time and money to get a certificate from NYU or whatever- do you think that would help? Have you done something similar? I have a ton of real world experience and I’m sure I would learn something, but I don’t want to spend the time and money if no one takes it seriously.

Could you get a similar certificate from a community college or someplace cheaper than NYU? I did a Project Management short-course at a CC for less than $1,000 ... NYU is notoriously costly ...

I'm not sure I understand your question - are you looking to get a project management certificate or something else? I think it depends on what the certificate is in and your own experience. I've seen them help people professionally but it's usually to bolster experience rather than change careers.

Is there any industrial certification you can get? Or do people in your industry pretty much know you or your company?
