How do I import a single, but very long, thread of texts from my Samsung Galaxy 7 to my PC?

I want to transfer a single, very long text thread to my computer, prior to resetting the phone to factory settings. I am not interested in importing the entire contents of my phone to the computer, just the one thread. I found one app that would do the job - I think - but which requires a paid subscription. Since this is literally the only thing I want from here, that seems like overkill.

Note I am a technology luddite, so nope, this is not obvious to me. Please explain this to me like I'm 5 (although, today's 5 year olds could probably do this for me without effort... sigh.)

There are a few "SMS backup and restore" type apps on the Android app market, this one seems decent and has over 100K downloads but there are others like it that seem fine too.

Once you have that you should be able to tell it to back up individual threads, which it will probably save as a text file somewhere on your phone, or give you the option to email it to yourself or upload to cloud storage like dropbox. I've done this a few times, not in a while so I'm not up to date, but it should be fairly straightforward!

Backing up all of your SMS messages in a format you can subsequently use your computer to extract a single thread from is functionality you're more likely to find easily, and probably wouldn't take significantly longer to do than selecting and backing up a single thread to begin with.

I’ve used the app blackleotardfront linked to multiple times at work with success every time, it’s our go to for things like this
