App for editing iPhone videos (primarily for Instagram)

I have seen certain video effects on Instagram videos that I would like to be able to replicate with my own content.

Things I want to be able to do include: recording clips of videos and stringing them together. In other words I want to be able to cut and then start a new scene, sometimes multiple times. Also - Making simultaneous split screens of two videos recorded separately. In one instance, it was two people playing through a Lego Mario course, shown side by side in split screen. Im sure there will be many other effects on an app like that, so I’ll leave it at this. What app am I looking for? Any tips for use?

Mooooost edited videos you see online these days are done with tiktok, even if you saw them on Instagram. That's probably the best place to start!

To be clear, I'm not suggesting to switch to Tik Tok. Many content creators right now edit their videos on tik tok, and export the video to other platforms. Tik Tok offers lots of great "filters" but includes quick cuts/edits, side-by-side, transitions, videos inside of videos, and much more.

You mention you'd like to replicate what you've seen creators do on instagram - can you look for a watermark on their video? Most free video editing software suites leave a watermark, and you could use that same software. But... it's usually tiktok. Especially for instagram Reels!

Instagram itself also has an integrated video editing suite but it's very limited compared to tiktok.

When you say "It's not tik tok I'm looking for but thanks!" can you clarify? How do you know it's not tik tok you're looking for? (Is there a feature missing that you need?) If you know what you're looking for already, can you clarify what question you are asking?

I would use tiktok for video editing myself, but I hate the stupid watermark that shows up when exporting. I really haven't found another mobile video editing app that is as good really. I think that's what most people are using for the side by side effect of different videos.

InShot is really good and available both on the App Store and Android.
