In My Fair Lady, Eliza Doolittle sings "One day I'll be famous! I'll be proper and prim /
Go to St. James so often I will call it St. Jim!" What's the St. James being referenced here?
My answer above is a bit off-base, I think - the reference is probably to St. James’s Palace, which is adjacent to the court.

Best answer: It's not just the Court or the Palace. St James's is the district of London's West End centred on St James's Street, which runs from Piccadilly to Pall Mall. Many members of the aristocracy had their town houses here (Spencer House, for example), many gentlemen's clubs are located here (White's, for example), and in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries it was the focus of the 'London Season' where all the most fashionable social events took place.
