Does anyone knows the author of this little animation ?
Some guy around set it as his avatar

人の一生 (Japanese) is maybe something like "the whole life of a person", which makes sense considering the animation. That brings up a ton of results on Google, so I can't help you any more than that.

This is either part of a genre, or one of several works by the same person I've seen, all .gif, all at least a couple of minutes in duration. The others I've seen have all been identified as Japanese and were done in a similar style. I've seen them at various sites. Sorry I can't help more.

They're all made with EasyToon (google it).
It's a simple Japanese animation program that makes nifty animated .gifs in black & white.
There's an English version, with a couple of hacks.
The animations are very distinctive (as stavros said).
Quick googling didn't reveal anything specific for you, but it might narrow it down.
