Things like 24 Hour Party People

What else might I like if I like 24 Hour Party People so much?

I just watched it and found myself wishing there were similar films for every historical moment or scene. I like the absurdity of it, the humor, the mix of fact and legend... Hard to discern what exactly. I think Death of Stalin is quite similar in terms of the wide cast of historic characters but with a lot of creative license. Also Peep Show, but for humor, not history. I also really liked The Trip trilogy, also starring Steve Coogan, but haven't actually seen his other work.

Also open to things beyond film and TV if you think they fit.

Sticking with Michael Winterbottom/Steve Coogan films, I definitely recommend Tristram Shandy.

Check out the This is England series. It was first a movie about the skinhead subculture in the early 80s told through a group of friends. Then there was a series of series called This is England '86, '88 and '90, which sees those same friends as they navigate the mod scene, late 80s, then 90s britpop movements.

It's definitely not absurd humor, but nails the historical/scene aspect.

It's All Gone Pete Tong?

It's All Gone Pete Tong is similar (and hilarious and delightful) in many ways. There's an obvious connection in the setting, but also in the mix of real and fictional components.

It's kind of a stretch, but Confessions of a Dangerous Mind?

There was a previous ask that might help.

I guess we need to also talk about The Rutles.

One of my all-time favourite movies. Have you enjoyed the director's commentary and Tony Wilson's commentary on the DVD? They are so funny!
