Help me remember the title of an old movie

Does this ring a bell? I remember seeing this movie on cable in the late 70s. It was probably made in the 30s, about an old man on his death bed. Someone who loved him had a fake newspaper printed with headlines and stories that were all about how everything is just fine so that he could die a happier man. I have no memory of what happened after that.

Response by poster: It is Bannerline! I must have watched that movie 50 times and I’ve never known the title before. Thank you, Hartster!
