My daughter is into "cottagecore" tik tok. I'm learning how to repair drywall. What useful or fascinating niches or subcultures have you discovered on Tik Tok?

My spouse and I are both fascinated with cults, and there's some former cult members, including "#exmo" (former LDS) and "#exJW" (former Jehovah's Witnesses), that we've watched on TikTok.

I love musical theater tiktok (y’a know, the people collectively writing the Ratatouille musical right now).

I also fell into teacher tiktok which has been great as an “old” (I’m only 32) to learn about slang and things that are important to teens today.

Inuit tiktok is fascinating. I loved learning how they hunt whales in kayaks. I also love sad_papi's cooking videos, they are so well done and the recipes are amazing.

Linguistics tiktok is really cool too. And once I found a channel that just does reviews of rare occult books. There's a carpet repair channel that must be seen to be believed. I never thought I would be interested in that, but here we are.

Tik tok is the best.

I'm completely enchanted by rollerskating TikTok/reels/stories.

Watching happy people rollerskate down palm tree lined promenades make me happy. Watching people perform highly choreographed dance routines on skates makes me happy.

I also enjoy the practice montages where someone practices a rollerskating skill every day and nails it at the end.

Some of my favorite subcultures to stumble into have included bee removal tiktok, pet snail tiktok, natural lawn advocacy tiktok, woodworking tiktok, possum tiktok, and powerwashing carpets tiktok. My husband is currently fascinated by Lebanese food enthusiast tiktok and drug cartel tiktok.
