How do I fix search engine spyware?

Because of spyware, Chrome's default engine keeps getting set to Yahoo instead of Google. How do I fix this?

Basically I tried to download a desktop version of Bandcamp which I should have realized does not actually exist, and that's where the problems started — every time I go to Google something now, I get a Yahoo page of results (which I'm sure is logging my data or whatever spyware does).

I can go switch it back to Google in Preferences. But every time I restart Chrome, the problem begins again.

Any ideas?

Malwarebytes will remove the spyware.

Best answer: Sounds like you may have the Yahoo search redirect virus.

I would start with the steps listed here.

You should also check your Chrome extensions for anything you didn't put there yourself.

Response by poster: Thank you cursed, I've never even mucked around with those Settings and I'd thought Google's previous recommendation was supposed to fix it but this one did, thanks again.
