Zooming.... quietly

Help me troubleshoot a Zoom audio issue on an iPad?
My child is now attending a daily Zoom session from their school, and almost every single time we go to log on, it doesn't connect the audio. Possibly relevant details:
- Operating on a fully charged iPad
- Zoom software is up-to-date
- We connect to the session via clicking on a link in a meeting invite in email
- iPad is right next to wifi source - very strong network connection
- iPad is connected to a TV via Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter
- Video connects without a problem
- Can see everyone else on video
- Don't get the typical audio connection prompt
- Top of the screen says "Connecting..."
- No other children seem to be having this problem
- Problem doesn't arise if connecting to the same session via my Android phone
- We often have to reconnect multiple times, or restart the iPad, to get it to work
Any ideas what's going on, and how to resolve it?

Response by poster: Haven't tried connecting without the adapter, so will give that a shot. Generally speaking, haven't ever had an audio issue when using it to connect to the TV.
All that said - even if there was an issue with the device's audio, or the connection to the TV, shouldn't Zoom still be giving me the audio prompt (use device, use phone, etc.)?

Try deleting the Zoom app and re-installing. That has resolved weird connection issues with other apps at times.

I have also had problems with Zoom not giving me a prompt to select the audio source/output, so … maybe, maybe not.

Response by poster: At the risk of jinxing ourselves: We logged on Friday without the iPad connected to the TV, and it worked fine. We'll keep trying this until it stops working!
