What is this object?

Purchased this thing many years ago at an antique fair in Rome. What is it?

What does it do? What was it’s original purpose? How old is it? It looks like some kind of press as there are two separate parts and small holes at the bottom of the bigger piece, but why would they be at the bottom? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like an olive oil press to me.

Not heavy-duty enough for an olive press.

To me it looks quite a lot like a citrus juicer

I believe that what you have is a very old bigoli pasta press. Or at least part of one.
