Name the new cats!

We are adopting these two this coming weekend. We would like to consider new names for them.

I am not a huge fan of the cute cat names like Cuddles or Mr. The Reverend Mousington. I work in a garden so extra points for Latin Plant names.

Well, you're actually presenting them to us as Yin and Yang, so...

Nepeta and cataria (genus and species names for catnip).

I like Dactylis (of Dactylis glomerata, aka as cat grass) for Rowdy and Cataria (from Nepeta cataria, aka catnip) for Maude.

Maude is a “Calluna” field, I’d say (though she doesn’t look terribly vulgaris, what a pretty kitty!) and Rowdy could be Aster (dropping the ending of -aceus just for convenience in speaking)

My favorite paired cat names are:

Legs and Thursday
Huey Lewis and The News (Huey/Newsie for short?), but there's a whole world that could work here: Siouxsie and the Banshees, Benny and the Jets

If you like plants, perhaps Blossfeldt and Karl.

M+F: Nick and Nora or Bonnie and Clyde.
M+M: Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd or Lewis and Clark.
F+F: Scylla and Charybdis or Thelma and Louise.

If they are M+F littermates, Luke and Leia; if not realted, then Han and Leia.

They are as close as peas in a pod, so call them Sugar and Snap.

Response by poster: We don’t know if they’re littermates and I’m totally open to non-paired names.

Peat Moss and Cat Mint.

For whatever reason, I've always wanted to name cats after soups. Maybe because cats are cozy like soup. Bisque and Gazpacho, maybe?

Response by poster: Nyssa is a possible for the female.
Still looking for names for the male.

Nyssa sylvatica (tupelo, black gum or sour gum) came up on the web. Other trees that came up are sweet gum or American storax, sassafras, and American sycamore.
Maybe Nyssa and Sylvester, or Nyssa and Tupelo.

I always liked the Latin name for my Russian olive tree: Elaeagnus angustifolia -- maybe Elaeagnus for the male?

Response by poster: We have settled on Nyssa and Jasper. They are home with us and Nyssa is hiding in the cat carrier while Jasper is deep under the bed where it is shockingly dusty.

Thank you all.
