"Nice shoes, wanna f*ck"

I can't believe I'm asking this, but I was discussing this phrase with a friend and we can't find its origin: "Nice shoes, wanna f*ck?"

I swear it's from a movie or something, but Google turns up nothing. I'm sorry, I realize that this question is rather pointless, but it's like the itch I can't scratch and it's bugging me.

I didn't know I needed to know this, but now I need to know it.

Data point: I learned it in high school, say '96 or so, as a sort of litmus test pickup line—either you could pull it off, or you couldn't (irrespective of whether it would ever have any chance of working).

Andrew "Dice" Clay definitely popularized it ... but I believe it was actually Steve Martin that originated it in a 70s stand-up routine.

My first time (sounds so.... dirty) was 1992. "Nice shoes, get a pizza?, wanna fuck?" was the routine. It seemed to flow better back then. Maybe I'm missing an emphasis.

I don't have an answer, but the version a friend tried on me was,

"Wanna get a pizza and fuck?"
"No."
"You don't like pizza?"

There weren't any shoes involved as far as I remember, but wasn't there a scene in "Body Heat" where William Hurt thinks the woman on the balcony is Kathleen Turner and calls up "Hey lady, wanna fuck?" Turns out to be her sister or something.

It's not quite the same, but "Nice boots, wanna fuck?" is a classic goth pickup line.

I think the cultural bump this piece of cheese got in 1995 was due to a bit between Michael Douglas and Annette Benning in this movie.

It goes back much further than that - my father told me that he first heard it back in the 50's. Only his version involved oranges.

Hey, do you like oranges?
Um . . . yeah.
Me too! Wanna fuck?

He suggested that this was a fairly effective means of interacting with women. I was about 12 at the time. Yes, I'm still recovering.

Alad— I always heard it as apples.

I'm seeing a pattern here.

Might I suggest a more modern version:
Nice iPod. Wanna fuck?
sorry, what? I couldn't hear you because I had my headphones on.
I said, uh, nice shoes...

First saw it in the 80's in the newsgroup net.singles as a list of pick up lines. Found a variant of it in this file which is more rude.

It's used in the movie What Planet Are You From? (an hilarious movie).

Him: Nice shoes.
Her: Thank you.
Him: Can I put my penis in you?
