What is this 1980's children's book?
When I was little - circa 1980's - I had a favorite picture book that involved alligators (I think, not crocodiles) who were kept as pets getting flushed down the toilet when they got too big and the things they did in the sewers. I did a google search, and found some fictional picture books about alligators living with people or in the big city, but not this one specifically.
Additional hints: I don't believe it was about one specific alligator, more like an alligator society in the sewers. It was definitely in color. It was a picture book with drawings, not a chapter book. I believe the book was written and published in the US.

Yay! Oddly, I don't remember reading this book, though it would have been right up my alley (or down my sewer....) when I was a kid in the '70s, and I wonder if I just don't remember it because I was too young. I wish it weren't out of print!
