Living in two places in the same neighborhood

My new apartment came with sleep-disrupting issues. I’m considering sleeping at my parents’ house which is a short walk away, so essentially I’d be living in two places. This might be short- or long-term, I don't know atm. I’d like to hear from people who have done this.

What was your experience like? Any tips?

The situation cannot be resolved differently at the moment (ie by finding another apartment or having control over the disturbance).

I've done this while house-sitting and while recovering from surgery. It's a bother and a half, because all your stuff is in place A, so if you wake up in place B and change your mind about what you want to wear or the weather changes, tough luck.

Things that made it easier included portable electronics, either having things in duplicate (slippers) or living permanently in the overnight bag (toiletries), and very tolerant hosts.

"the period in relationships where one person stays over on a regular basis but you're not ready to move in"

Exactly. When my wife and I were dating, we coincidentally lived in apartments next door to one another, so this phase started basically the second week we were together. I think the circumstance frames your outlook: I was excited about doing it, because it meant I got to spend more time with the woman whom I would eventually marry. Your situation is probably a little different.

The big thing is to try to keep your life at your apartment except for sleeping. All your food, all your clothes, all your random stuff stays at your place, and you only go over to your parents' to sleep (or for normal social visits). I even showered at my own apartment, even though I could have done so at hers. Two reasons: it's important to have your own space rather than always feeling like a guest, and you don't want to take advantage of hospitality.

The duplicate slippers suggestion is inspired. I totally did that.

I've also done this when housesitting and when dating someone who lived five blocks away, and having things split between two houses/lugging things back and forth definitely gets annoying. It depends on your situation and schedule. If you have to go to work in the morning but get up early enough that you can go home to shower and change without feeling rushed, that would probably be ideal. I find my laptop the most annoying thing to carry around, so if you can avoid that, it helps. I also have duplicate phone chargers and duplicate toiletries.
