Birth playlist?

Me and very pregnant wife are making a playlist for labor. She is more interested in energy and vibe rather than being on theme. Can you help suggest some more songs that would be similar energy-wise? Example of what’s already on the playlist are inside!

Again- we’re not looking for songs that are thematically birth or labor related.

Here are examples of songs already there:

Lana Del Rey, Get high on the Beach
Flora Cash, you’re somebody else
Dua Lupa, IDGAF
St Vincent, Cruel

So- any suggestions?

Miles Davis, Sketches of Spain, the most unforgettable labor music ever (although I can't tell you how it relates to your list...:)

I highly recommend a lower-energy list for early to middle labor and something more intense for transition and pushing, especially if this is a first birth and early labor is likely to take awhile. Early labor is an endurance sport and the key is to stay positive and calm for what may be hours of painful physical work, but the end bit there is a crazy, high drama sprint and you are not going to want to hear the mellow stuff anymore.

I found it useful to put a few songs on the early labor list that were funny in a labor context..."Ring of Fire" and the like...to make me laugh and take my mind off things a bit. But when I was actually transitioning and pushing I was all about the most intense, high energy jams I could think of.

Honestly the best thing on either list was "Highway to Hell". I'm sure it wasn't intended to be a labor song but imo it rocks as one.

I liked those songs, so I might have some suggestions that are somewhat helpful. I know nothing about good music for labor, though, sorry for obviously inappropriate suggestions.

Sofi Tukker might be a good match to your list. I don't really recommend her songs in English personally, but I really like her music in Portuguese. Drinkee or Matadora may match your playlist. Bonus: without knowing the language, the music is a solely about the energy. Sigur Ros and Stromae might be good choice for this reason as well.

I would also add Grimes and Lorde to that list. Realiti and 400 Lux, respectively, would be my choices but there are lots of options on Art Angels and Pure Heroine. Odesza's How Did I Get Here has a similar vibe and maybe is a good tongue in cheek title?

Anyway, I hope something helps a bit, and that things go smoothly for y'all!

Lykke Li matches the vibe you're going for, if you don't mind the darker themes in her lyrics. E.g. I'm Good I'm Gone

FWIW I only wanted to listen to podcasts in early labour - I found people talking to strike the perfect balance between calm and distracting. Maybe have some talky podcasts locked and loaded just in case music mysteriously doesn't cut it?

You have great taste in music! Here are some things I'd add:
Honey - Robyn - nice and propulsive (I actually listened to a combination of Robyn and Solange while I was pushing)
Yama Yama - Yamasuki Singers - those drums! That bass! Those oddly motivating stevedore yelps!
Django Jane - Janelle Monae - honestly the whole album could go . on your playlist, but the tempo/mood of Django Jane feels suitable for labour to me.

Congratulations!

Punk rock all the way. I thought I'd want super-chill hippie whalesong and somesuch but honestly, when it got really intense, face-punchin' music was right up my alley.

Dog Days Are Over by Florence + the Machine.

Nthing Lorde. Maybe the song Green Light. She has so many great songs though
