Lost File Menu in MS word

I have lost File Menu in MS word.

Sorry to trouble all. MS Word Problem. Edit View Insert etc all there but File Menu has evaporated. Have tried all I know and all that bloody paperclip says.

Best answer: I'm not sure what version of Word you are running but in my copy of Word XP you can change anything you want in the menus by using the Commands tab on the Tools -> Customize dialog. In the left box in that tab scroll down to "Built-in Menus" and you should see a choice for the "File" menu in the right box. Then you can drag that "File" up to the menu bar.

octothorpe's method will work in Word versions going back at least ten years, I'm pretty sure.

Response by poster: That is just what I needed. I never use MS Word and if that bloody hopping paperclip shows his face again I will nut him. Thanks again.

try renaming your normal.dot..

- exit word
- Click on Start - Run and type in %appdata%
- open Microsoft\Templates folder
- Rename each instance of Normal.dot to something else
- restart Word
