Video asset management tools?

What is the current state of the art for managing a bunch of video files owned by an organization? What are the main products for a shop with a few editors & maybe half a dozen layout people (call it under 10TB of data for now)?

I used to work in an agency & pre-press shop, and I know that Digital Asset Management for scans and InDesign files and such is A Thing-- so I says to myself I says, there must be something similar for video assets, right?

Does Adobe Bridge handle video (as well as it does anything else (which is to say, not well))?

The DAM tool is separate from the storage, right? But the storage can be either direct-attached or networked (like a Drobo/Synology/other NAS) on our campus LAN?

Basically we want to avoid losing track of existing footage, so we can re-use it and to avoid costly re-shoots. We're a .edu, so we don't have a big budget for that -- or for the DAM tool, come to think of it.

Thank you!
