IDing a MG novel

Trying to remember the title of a middle-grade novel from the 1970s/early 1980s.

The book was about a pair of female friends who had started to grow apart, possibly because they were going to different schools or different classes. The book was written in the first person from the perspective of the character who was the dumpee. The B plot was about the narrator’s father, who crossed the equator when he was in the military. At the end of the book, he pulled out a certificate stating he crossed the equator, and he talked to the narrator about how it wasn’t a big deal.

The book was a chapter book, possibly released by an imprint like Dell Yearling. I believe the author was a woman, and there were no illustrations. I read the book in 1987 or so, and I believe it was originally published in the 1970s/early 1980s. It may have been set in the 50s or early 1960s.

Does this ring any bells?

My best guess is Just as Long as We’re Together by Judy Bloom.
