Help me find a science fiction/possible Star Trek novelization

Can you help me find this book based on one vaguely remembered scene: girl with mental powers using those powers to push herself through a physical task (pretty sure it was climbing a tree)?
I can't believe I'm asking this question but I really like someone on Metafilter will be able to ID this book.
I read this book around 1992 or 1993. I am somewhat certain (maybe 80%) it was a Star Trek TNG novelization as I didn’t read a ton of sci-fi growing up but I did read some of those books. I also have a mental image of Troi in my memory of it but I could be conflating here since I was a fan of The Next Generation at the time. I tried to do a search of TNG novelizations but wow, there are so many.
The scene I remember involved a youngish girl (probably Troi, but maybe I was just comparing her to Troi) doing some kind of physical, play task, I think climbing a tree.. She starts to feel her muscles hurt but uses special mental powers that she has to push through the pain and get to the top. I seem to remember even as a 12 year old thinking this was a really cool application of mental powers that the show TNG never did.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
