Unprotecting a TI-83 program?

TI-83 Question. I have a protected program on my calculator and would like to modify it.
Years and years ago it was really simple to unprotect a file using TI's Graph-Link software but they don't seem to offer or support it anymore; it was dropped in favor of this new TI Connect program. For the life of me I can't figure out how to find the program editing interface in TI Connect, or even some kind of file manager that might allow me to unprotect a file (or protect one, for that matter).
I have MirageOS on the calc and I know it has the ability to unprotect files, but the protected program is not recognized by Mirage because it's missing the additional ":" on the first line.
The program in question was written in Basic, so I know it is safe to muck with on the calc. I just need help accessing its innards.
Thanks :)

Have you tried searching for some other programs that might unprotect the program in question? Try here. I'm assuming you already have a TI-link cable?
Programs 'prog' or 'protect' seem like they'll work...

there is an enable "bit". You can use a calculator hex editor to change the bit from 0x05 to 0x06.. or the other way around.. I haven't touched a calculator for about 6 years so I don't remember the details

There are a number of other programs for linking TIs to be found here.
I don't know how the protection on TIs works, but can't you just copy the file over to your PC and read it on there?
