Craft cocktails in Atlanta

Heading down to Atlanta for a conference this weekend and interested in suggestions for the city's best craft cocktail bars. Staying downtown but don't mind taking a car to get somewhere worth going. Thanks for your tips!

Downtown, go to Trader Vic's Tiki Bar.

5-10 minutes from downtown, try Ticonderoga Club at Krog Street Market (a food hall with counter service and sit down restaurants), Kimball House in Decatur or The Mercury at Ponce City Market (like Chelsea Market - same developer).

Reddit thread on Atlanta cocktails and Goop guide to Atlanta have some solid picks.

Amer and Empire State South are both great. Neither is too far (by car) from downtown. In Decatur, so more of a trip, are Pinewood and Leon's. I'd vouch for all of them.

Pinewood FTW!

Yeah, Decatur takes this shit seriously. In addition to all of the places above (but seriously go to Pinewood), there is also SOS Tiki Bar, which is silly and weird. If you're staying Downtown, Decatur is very easily accessed by MARTA, so you can get your drink on for real and not have to worry about driving.

I also have a soft spot for Wrecking Bar in Little Five Points. Although they are a brewpub, they are also very serious about their cocktails. Also accessible by MARTA, it's very close to the Inman Park/Reynoldstown station.

Also, check out the blog Bitter Southerner, based in Atlanta and very into craft cocktails. Here's a link to their Cocktail Series

Seconding downtown Decatur as the location of several fine drinkeries.

Ration & Dram also has great cocktails and is about a 20 min. walk / very short Lyft ride from Edgewood/Candler Park Marta station (south side).

Response by poster: Thanks for all the suggestions. Unfortunately, I didn't have much time to explore. The only place I went to was Red Phone Booth, but I was unimpressed with the cocktails I tried, and the servers seemed flummoxed by some really simple questions (like, "Can you recommend a drink with mezcal?" or "What would you suggest that's tall and refreshing?).
