Sci-fi books filter, bioships may be involved

Amnesiac protagonist is definitely involved. A bit gorey in the details, but not sure if it was a short story or novel.

Protagonist wakes up. They (maybe "she") supposedly has a sister, and a mother, who greet Protag. Protag has done this before, but each time their memory is wiped. Something about fighting a war? Protag is a weapon? Protag is injured from last time or recovering. Ship is (most likely) alive. There are machines that are fleshy and squirm. Details are unnerving and macabre. Protag tries to get answers but no one is coughing any up. Enters a lab where machines are being taken apart. (I think.)

This is all in the first chapter. Or, at the least, in the beginning of a Kindle sample. I've gone through the samples I have on my phone and can't seem to find it.

It's a long shot, but sound familiar?

On another note, have you read Octavia Butler's Lilith's Brood series? Weird bioship, woman protagonist wakes up once again, strange conveyances, large and morally ambiguous project, lots of body...well, not horror, I can't really do horror, but ick, definitely body ick.
