DAC overkill?/portable media player recommendation

DragonFly + AK Jr. = dumb idea? And if so, what PMP instead of the Astell & Kern?

I'm just learning about improving audio quality on smartphones and similar-sized devices. Tried the DragonFly Black, and am exchanging it for a Red. In conjunction with that, I plan to incorporate more WAV/FLAC/etc. files into my library, so I want a dedicated phone/PMP for it. There's a good deal on the AK Jr. right now, but I'm seeing it does its own DAC. So my questions are 1. Using a Dragonfly with an AK Jr. would be overkill/fruitless, right? and 2. If I liked the Dragonfly Red better than the AK Jr., and wanted to get a PMP, are there other options in the 64GB+/under $300 price range that people would recommend? I'm really only seeing this, the Sony NWZA, and iPhones, the last of which seem like they'll be problematic for FLAC. Thanks very much for any advice.

Anecdata: I use the AK Jr with no additional DAC, mainly with flac files, daily, and it works very well.
