Do you know of a special place to stay in Bangkok?

I'm looking for "charming", "special" or otherwise "interesting" lodging / hotel recommendations in Bangkok for a group of 5 persons + a baby in the 30-50 Euros/room per night range for between 3-5 nights in April. Two of us are not new to the place (in fact one is a native). More inside.
As far as hotels go, we have stayed in the past in pretty much the whole price range, from the Sukkothai and the Regent to random Khao San road dives. At one point, we even had a proper address (i.e. apartment) close to the Huai Kwang market. So we know the city and what it has to offer quite well.
This time around, we're taking friends which have never been before to the place. We'll be spending 15 days in April (leaving after SongKran) in Thailand, and for 3 to 5 of those we will be staying in Bagnkok.
Last year we stayed at the Indra Regent by the WTC and the year before in the Narai in Silom (both were special offers proposed here). These are run-down-but-then-again-heavily-discounted places in very convenient locations (in a city known for its nightmare traffic jams). The downside is, well, their general lack of charm. I.e., the Indra Regent pool area is very nice and Thai service tends to be exceptional, but you can only ask so much of functional hotes with a massive number of rooms.
A good (albeit too expensive for what you get) option could be the Silom Serene, a small hotel just off Silom in which I've stayed for work quite a few times. Another option more in our price range would be the Silom Village (I only know the patio restaurant, though).
Anyway, I was just wondering if anybody had other recommendations. I am wondering particularly if the change of location of the airport has turned any old glory into a new bargain. But I am also wondering what charming little hotels are there in the city of angels (charming as in reasonably priced charming - the Sukkothais, Shagri Las and Regents are all very charming, but very expensive too). Any area is OK.

Best answer: latestays is a great site for accommodations...
I also really like suk 11 for their family friendly atmosphere...

Though it leans towards the hostel end of things, travelfish.org is the best catalog of smaller hotels that I've seen. A little trawling through the listings should bring out some nice possibilities.

Response by poster: We ended up staying at the Trinity Silom. Within its price range, quite a find. Specially recommended are the suites in the 6th floor.
