Great gift for graduating nephew - refugee edition

Need a great gift for my nephew who graduated from high school last week. Difficulty: need it today and it has to be awesome.

My amazing nephew just graduated from high school and it's an amazing accomplishment for him giving his background.

I was going to give him a present when I saw him in two weeks, but I just found out I'm going to see him *tomorrow morning* and I need to get him a gift that can be bought on Amazon Prime Now or that I can buy in human land. I'm in Richmond, Virginia.

He's a clothes horse, wears a men's small. He likes sports and video games. I'm totally open, though, to something awesome that doesn't fall into those categories.

My budget is up to $150.

Can you help an aunt out? My distance in the interests of 18-year-old boys is measured in light years.

Thanks!

Best answer: A nice watch?

Best answer: I can't think of a better gift for a 18 year old than cash. Is there a reason you don't want to do that?

Best answer: If he doesn't already have a Nintendo handheld, you should be able to get a 2DS bundled with a game within your budget at any Walmart, and I'm sure it would be appreciated.

I would be tempted however to go with a more traditional American men's coming of age type gift though like a watch, a nice pocket knife, a quality leather wallet, or a fancy pen.

Of course you can also never go wrong with cash in this situation.

Response by poster: I talked to my brother who said the watch is the way to go. Thanks for your help! Shockingly I hadn't thought of a watch. (Although I'm sure my nephew would have preferred cash!)

If you want to give a Thing, I understand (I'm not a fan of giving cash) but including the receipt and making sure it's something that can be easily returned is a kindness. $150 probably means a lot more to him than it does to you.

That said, here are some things that I was considering for my same-age brother:
-a luxe robe can be nice in a dorm
-a kindle makes ebooks a pleasure to read (and makes library books easier to access)
-a clothing gift card (maybe bonobos if you want to go reasonably high-end?) is always good
-nice bedding, if he's going to need that for next year anyways
-while it's not enough for an entire gadget, accessories for a computer/phone/tablet (a nice protective case, applecare if someone else is buying a macbook, something like that) are probably something he's most likely to use
-one of the things that made me most popular in my dorm is that I had a good air mattress available for friends - if he's dispersing from a close group, that'd be nice

Oh man, I appreciate the idea of a watch but honestly I'd hate it if someone bought one for me. So many styles and sizes and types and they're such a personal preference thing.
At the very least I would second R a c h e l and make sure you include the receipt. And buy it from a store that isn't just local to you but would have a location near him for his convenience.

Even better offer to take him shopping for it. Or buy a Visa gift card and print a picture of a watch and put them both in the card with a note.
