Help me identify this Jordanian(?) singer

I heard this wonderful music while on a minibus from Petra to Aqaba. Male singer singing a capella. I think it was on the radio, but I'm not sure. The music was very relaxing and almost hypnotic. Didn't sound religious to me, but I don't speak Arabic so not sure about that either. Any ideas?

If there was no instrumental accompaniment, it's very likely that it was Quran recitation. Quran recitation--when performed by a professional--is often very melodic, and as you mentioned, almost hypnotic. It wouldn't be unusual for it to be played over a radio in public.
