Lipstick shade match: L'Oreal Mystic Mauve (625)

So my favorite lipstick shade has been discontinued: L'Oreal Couleur Riche Mystic Mauve (625). Does anyone know of another lipstick shade that's a close match? Or (failing that) is there a good resource for finding shade matches for discontinued makeup?

You could try asking on the boards at Makeupalley. They're quite active, but the downside is they move fast.

I've never ordered from them, but this company says it can recreate discontinued lipstick shades.

Try the makeup dupe DB at temptalia.com

There isn't a good picture of this lipstick on the internet so if you could post a picture (of it on your lips or a swatch on your arm) that would help. With that said, the phrase you are looking for is "dupe", but this color doesn't have many dupes listed anywhere (nothing on Temptalia for example). I found two results saying MAC Fluid, which is unfortunately also discontinued, but people say the dupes for THAT are Wet n Wild Cashmere or NYX Wicked Lippie in Power. If either of those look right, then you could google the dupes for THOSE... and on and on.

Frost/shimmer lipstick isn't super popular at the moment so it's going to be hard to find the pages and pages of dupe recommendations (that aren't discontinued) that you might for, say, a matte nude liquid lipstick. One option is to bring it to a place with lots of testers (department store, Sephora etc), swatch it on your arm, and then just start comparing. Clinique has a decent selection of purple frost lipstick (I was thinking of Heather Moon) so maybe try there.

I would go to Merle Norman and check out their lip color samples. It's so hard to judge these things online, but there are a few shades on this page that look promising.

How about Max Factor Colour Elixir Midnight Mauve 711?

If it's the shimmer you're after, check out Urban Decay or Butterfly Ball lipsticks, both of which you can find at Ulta.

I've bought my mom discontinued drugstore lipstick on ebay with great success. Here's the results page for your lipstick.

Nthing Three Custom Color as above. Have ordered a discontinued shade of mom's favorite lippie. The color match was perfect. They can't match the formula, though. [Recently almost ordered for myself. A friend gently reminded me that a shade that is discontinued is probably no longer in style. Hated on her but...she spoke truth.]

Response by poster: Thanks for all the helpful responses! I'm looking forward to trying some of these options. (And yeah, I'm sure folks are right about it being out of fashion ... but I don't think I've ever managed to be in style so ...)
