Name that dog, episode 126.

Meet Jill, the terribly shy, but sweet, 11-month old shepherd/lab (?!) mix we adopted last night. I think she needs 2 syllables. We like old-fashioned names. We already have Sally, the terrier of indeterminate origin and her predecessor was Gertrude. So far, Stella and Ethel are contenders. What says the Green?
Little Dorrit.

Princess Pfeffernusse might be a little too old fashioned? I like Greta from carmicha's list.

What's wrong with Jilly? or Gilly? Close enough to her old name. But I have to say that she looks like a Suzy to me.

Best answer: Believe it or not, my immediate reaction (reading the part about the two-syllable, old-fashioned name, but missing the part about her current name being Jill) was either Lily or Millie. If she knows the sound of her name to some degree already, those shouldn't be too disruptive.

Agree with Jilly / Jillie / Gillie. I would think life would be confusing enough for a newly adopted dog without changing her name.

When I adopted my terrier last year he was called Duke. He was NOT a duke type of guy at all! After getting advice here I went with Dermot because I wanted to keep the same first letter, thinking it would make things easier for him (plus he looked like a dermot!)
So I like Jilly actually, but if you want a change, something with a similar sound or the same first letter might be a good idea, e.g. Gilly, Millie, Jenny, Gigi, Joey, etc.
She's adorable!
