help me remember this old punk song

It seems like a lot of people have had success with this, so I'm going to give it a shot.

When I was a senior in high school, some guy made a mixtape of punk songs for a friend of mine as kind of a Punk 101 thing. She wasn't into it it, but knowing that I liked some punk bands, she gave the tape to me. There was a lot of good, classic stuff on it (Minor Threat, Operation Ivy, etc), and some stuff I didn't already know, including one song in particular. Here's what I remember:

-I got the tape in the spring of 1998, so it had to have been recorded before then. It is likely several years older than that, as the newest song I remember from the tape is "I Wanna Be a Homosexual" by Screeching Weasel.
-The chord progression was I-IV-V, and I'm pretty sure it went I-IV-I-IV-I-IV-V-IV.
-It sounded somewhat similar to Screeching Weasel, although a bit harder. Not hardcore-hard, though.
-The chorus repeats the words "I'm sorry" a bunch. It is NOT "I'm Sorry" by Blink-182.

Can you try to replicate in letters how the words were sung? Was it like iiiiiiiiiiim sorry or I'm soorrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyy

And I know this is dumb because this isn't punk and that isn't the chord progression but it's not this REM song right?

Response by poster: Definitely not REM, although I was listening to them earlier today.

Kind of like "I'm sooorry", although the fourth repetition holds the last note like "I'm soorryyyyy".
