What to do in NYC post-high school, pre-adulting.

There is a possibility our high-school grad niece will be staying with us in NYC over the summer. How can she find like-minded teens?

Our niece is pondering a stay with us here in NYC over the summer in order to take advantage of an internship. She'll have just graduated high school and doesn't have any friends in this part of the country, though, and we obviously can't be her only social circle. So what can she do?

She's interested in: Art! Nerdy things! Social causes! Learning (in general)! We know a million places she can go to by herself to scratch those itches, but are coming up empty on events where she can make friends her own age.

check for events/mixers run by the museums themselves - here in the bay area, the exploratorium and tech museums run drinks/dancing nights every so often (i think it's 18 and over, and you show an ID to get a bracelet for booze). art classes at said museums. if she likes music, i think questlove from the roots runs a thing at the brooklyn bowl every thursday, i believe it's $10 (info on his instagram page).

unless she's the only one, she will probably meet other interns at work, which might help too.
