Can you recommend a pediatrician in the Twin Cities?

Hi, our favorite pediatrician is moving to a practice out in the far suburbs. We really like her, but it probably makes sense to find someone not so far from where we live. We live in south Minneapolis so someone in the city or a first-ring suburb would be ideal. As a non-doctor, I find it hard to evaluate anyone's medical skills, but we obviously want someone good who also has a rapport with children. We ask lots of questions (we are curious worriers) so a doctor who likes explaining things to parents would be great.

I would absolutely network among the nurses and medical personnel you might know, or friends of friends who are in the medical field.

Southdale Pediatrics. Depends where you are within "south Mpls", it might be a bit far. It is on the southern-central border of Edina (France and Parklawn).

Response by poster: TinWhistle, I think that would work for us. Do you recommend any particular doctor there?

Best answer: We go to Metropolitan Pediatrics in Edina and have had good experiences with everyone we've interacted with there. We've definitely appreciated the fact that they have weekend hours (and the Burnsville clinic has Sunday appointments). They've been really good about getting us seen on short notice when we need an ear infection evaluated or something.

Dr. Eaton is our designated primary doc, but we also really like McCarthy, as well as Harrington and Stealy. They're all busy enough that for short-notice visits you sometimes have to see whoever's available, but that hasn't been an issue for us (and the scheduled annual checks are generally with your designated provider), and they have enough docs that getting a same-day visit is usually not a problem.

I'm not a physician but my wife is. That's sometimes led the docs to make assumptions about levels of medical knowledge, but they've always been very willing to re-calibrate and explain when I ask questions.

Best answer: I love the general pediatrics clinic at Children's Hospital. We've seen almost everyone there for something, and Dr Bailey is our primary. No reservations in recommending her wholeheartedly.
