Fraud Prevention Solutions for eCommerce?

My company is looking for a fraud prevention service to screen users of our eCommerce platform. Difficulty level: Medium sized but very fast-growing, US based, global business. Not retail. Think restaurant or hotel reservations but with a bit of a twist - users may use our site to make a claim on something, but don't pay for it immediately.

We are frequently targeted by credit card scammers who create accounts with fake information and pay with bad cards. We need to vet user's identities before they get to the payment step. We use a bank to screen the cards for our payment processor but many of the cards are reported stolen after the users provide them. Neither the bank nor the processor can do the identity screening, and we're not looking to change those services right now.

We are looking at kount, signifyd, ca.com, riskified, and a few others. Do you have experience with any of these services? Have a recommendation/warning?

Thank you for any suggestions!

Perhaps you could require a background check through a provider like Checkr as part of the account creation or verification process? The background check would be free for your clients (as your company would be responsible for the cost) and could be easily integrated into your platform. Checkr isn't the only player of course, it's just the one I'm most familiar with, as my employer uses it to vet our users.

Accertify is an excellent provider - some of the top ECommerce sites (including Nike.com, which is one of the largest sports retailer in the world).

Caution:

1. Whoever you go with, make sure the fraud engine is thoroughly tested with all payment types (gift cards being a particular problem)

2. Ensure the provider can also provide rules based on data collected from the customer's machines - typically, a mash of hardware+OS+Browser information. You may want to have rules that limit purchase of certain products to a certain #. Basing only on credit card is not effective!
