which bookshops in Cardiff are open in the evening?

The latest-opening bookshop I can find in Cardiff is Waterstones, which closes at 6pm. There must be somewhere that's open later, surely? Bonus points available if it's in the same general area. I'm looking for a reasonable range of general fiction. Lots more bonus points for a half-decent history or philosophy section, but I don't want to ask too much.

Best answer: Most Cardiff shops are currenly operating extended Christmas opening hours, so it appears that Waterstones is open weeknights in the lead up to Christmas until 8pm. I think you'll struggle to find many other shops in Cardiff opening any later than that to be honest.

WH Smith on Queen street regularly open until 6.30pm weeknights, but as to their selection of books...

Best answer: I'm going to guess from checking all the places on this list that the answer's no and that your best option is a £12.50 return trip (50 minutes each way) on a train to Bristol, which has a decent selection of bookshops, of which I assume Foyle's is probably a good bet. And if you're making a journey Topping's in Bath is a very nice shop*. They're both open until 8 pm.

But I doubt that a two hour round trip fits the bill. As car01 mentioned above, if it's before Christmas, then extended opening hours should do it for you. If not, then I guess I've put a couple of maybe suitable alternatives above.

*and my second favourite bookshop in Bath, but my favourite shuts at 6pm.

Response by poster: Thank you!

Waterstones will do for now with their extended hours - but all the others are good options for when I have more time.
