One-woman actor of a hundred-plus character trilogy?

I was in San Francisco in 1995 or 1996 (?) and saw two parts of a three-night performance by a woman who, with her voice alone, performed as more than a hundred different characters. She had written this trilogy, as well.

There was no staging; she wore a very plain top and leggings, and did no more than switch the microphone from one hand back to the other each time she switched character. Most of these characters were connected in some way or other, although the situations were wide-ranging in terms of place (but all in the U.S.) and time. I especially remember the "first-ever unsegregated Tupperware party" (in Mississippi, I think) two elderly ladies meeting in a bar, realizing they had been friends 50 years before, and a surfer-dude named "Skeeter" who won't commit. As you can see, I remember a great deal--except the name of the writer/performer and the play. Please help my spotty memory!

Was it a performance by Anna Deavere Smith? She is known for 'narrative theater' projects.
